Under the Umbrella – Upcoming 2015 Summer Opportunities for Foster/Adopted Youth

The end of the school year will be coming very soon for many of our children and youth. Perhaps you may have already 53808826_thumbnailstarted making summer school plans, thinking about vacations, and coordinating child care for your kiddos. Or perhaps you are just the opposite and have no idea what summer plans are in store for your children let alone yourself at this time. With summertime creeping around the corner, here at the Coalition for Children, Youth & Families we thought it would be great timing to share a few fun and unique upcoming 2015 Summer Wisconsin Opportunities specific for children and youth who have been adopted or are in foster care:

  • FREE Fostering Success Summer Overnight for Youth in Foster Care in Grades 9-12 at the University of Wisconsin-Stout, June 15th-16th. Students who have been in foster care or are currently in foster care can apply for a chance to participate in this pre-college experience program.   • The University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh also offers a similar program. To learn more about their program visit: http://www.uwosh.edu/precollege/programs-offered 
  • Camp To Belong-Wisconsin at Camp Anokijig in Plymouth, WI, August 16th-21st. Camp experience for children in care that places emphasis on the importance of sibling connections. This is the first year it is being hosted in Wisconsin. To learn more about this camp visit: www.CTB-WI.org
  • Royal Kids Camp. Various dates and camp sites in Wisconsin (reference below). Camp experience for children in foster care. To learn more about any of these camps visit: http://royalfamilykids.org/wisconsin/
    • Camp #184 & #10 in Milwaukee, WI, July 12th – 17th
    • Camp #104 in Racine, WI, July 27th – July 31st
    • Camp #279 in Plover, WI, August 2nd-7th
    • Camp #284 in Hartland, WI, August 17th – 21s
  • Holt Adoptee Camp at Camp Lakotah in Wautoma, WI, July 5th-9th. Open to children and youth ages 9-16 who have been adopted. Focuses are to build adoptee community and promote healthy identity development. To learn more about this camp visit:http://www.holtinternational.org/camp/

There are many other summer camps across Wisconsin, so this list is far from comprehensive! However, we have included camps above that are specific to the populations of adoption and foster care.
